Come the monsoon season and the tiatr fans are out for another treat with the release of five new tiatrs by noted directors of the Konkani stage. Usually the new productions released during the monsoon enable every tiatr lover to enjoy something unique with regards to cast, stage sets and a variety of songs from a galaxy of singers.
This time around Mario Menezes is experimenting on his new production by roping in child artistes. His children’s tiatr ‘100%’ carries a novelty as it includes several children of noted tiatrists of the Konkani stage.
Instead of moving ahead, winning accolades with the professionals, he decided to give it a try with the child artistes and he mentioned that some of them are stepping on the tiatr stage for the first time. “But their performance on stage, be it in singing or acting, will speak volumes about each of them,” he noted.
‘The tiatr script is based on children and each of the child artiste, is playing his/her own character,” informed Menezes. “The tiatr is purely traditional, which has comedy within the play,” he added.
Throwing more light on the tiatr, Menezes said that the tiatr is about school life. He added that due to heavy stage sets, it will be presented only in the cities. “Comedian Agostinho’s son Aden, along with Shenon is the band leader,” he added.
The director makes an earnest appeal to the audience to come and watch the show which will in a way encourage the child artistes and give a boost to all those who are making their first appearance on stage.
After successful hits with tiatrs ‘Goy Goykaranchem’, ‘Modhli Vatt’, ‘Revolution’, ‘ICU Bed No 2’, Irineu Gonsalves is all set to release his new production ‘Omor Mogachi Kanni’. With regards to his new tiatr, he says it is a book and the story begins in the 60’s.
“The story begins with two families and focus on a couple with two different backgrounds,” informs Gonsalves. “The tiatr progresses with involvement of the third party and it has a good dose of suspense,” he mentioned.
The uniqueness in this production includes the usage of curtains only for songs and comedy. “Rest everything will be projected on stage,” revealed Gonsalves, “through video mapping which is seldom seen on the Konkani stage.”

“Relatives of the past is only history now,” notes Joana, “jealousy, enmity is the root cause in the destruction of relatives in the Goan families.” “However much the relatives may oppose in the family,” she adds, “God’s plans are different. Need for unity is a must in a family.”
