It is not often we come across people making kind gestures, especially to the underprivileged. But there are some, who know nothing but kindness, nothing but generosity. And for them, karma is just, and mostly instant. They believe in sharing love and light in the lives of these underprivileged kids.
59-year old Clara Fernandes from Dona Paula is one such example. She has a very simple routine – wake up, cook delicious food like sheera or khichdi, take her car and drive around the city. Clara feeds several poor kids, whom she finds begging and crying on the streets. She doesn’t offer them any money but yes, does offer them lots of love and care.
Well settled, mother of three and a grandmother of a little boy, this retired government servant has sacrificed her post retirement life to share love with these destitute kids.
“I am a strong follower of Mother Teresa and I want to continue the work she was doing. If not in a big way, at least in some way. I feel happy to see smiles on the faces of these small kids. They are innocent and their family background has forced them to beg for survival,” Clara told Herald.
“These kids don’t like samosas, patties and other fried food. They love sheera and khichdi and anything homemade,” she said. Clara, who visits these kids twice a day – mornings and evenings- has many a times provided them with clothes and even given them bath.
“I don’t want any publicity for this. I want rich people who can offer to share some love with these kids. They need love, care and food. Nothing else matters to them. If you love them, they love you back,” the mother of three kids narrates.
Clara has not restricted herself to providing food and clothes. She even got admission for two young boys in a boarding school attached to Father Angel Central School at Pilar. She is thankful to one sister Jennifer, who helped her a lot in getting the admission done.
She even made attempts to provide shelter to many such kids in the Mother Teresa Home in Panjim but failed as these kids don’t find themselves comfortable living there and also their parents want their children to beg
with them.
