BENAULIM: AIFF Academy defeated Sporting Clube de Goa, 3-1 in the U-18 I-League match held at Benaulim ground, on Sunday.
AIFF Academy opened the account in the 6th minutes of the match when Biswa Darjee sent a through ball to Lalnuntluanga who made no mistake to slot the ball in to draw the first blood.
AIFF did have a major share of ball possession throughout the match and played a more of an attacking game constantly threatening the Flaming Oranje side.
Flaming Oranje trailing by a goal tried to make amends as the match went on and tried to take control of the match however the AIFF side was too strong for Sporting Clube.
In the 43rd minute Edmund Lalrindika of AIFF Academy should have netted to double the lead for his team however his shot was cleared to safety by midfielder, Brendon Gomes of Sporting Clube de Goa.
Just before the breather AIFF Academy went on to double their lead through Rahim Ali who taped the ball in off Edmund Lalrindika pass in the added time of the first session.
AIFF Academy were leading 2-0 at half-time.
Sporting put up a convincing show in the second half and tried to get the match back to where it started.
The boys in Oranje finally managed to pull a goal back after a beautiful counter move which was started through Brendon Gomes who ran up the flank to send the ball to Perryson Rebello who made no mistake to fire the ball home 71st minute.
With just a goal remaining to level scores Sporting Clube pressed harder at their rivals constantly raiding AIFF’s citadel. However the defence stood strong.
AIFF Academy sealed their win after they scored the third goal of the match in the added time of the second half through Lalrindika.
