VARCA: Assolda Veterans edged past Quepem Veterans 2-1 to lift the 1st All Goa Veterans Soccer organised by Texas Boy’s Varca, at Varca football ground, on Sunday.
A cross from Agnelo Gomes was converted by Peter Peixoto with a powerful drive giving no chance for Quepem Veterans keeper Hanuman Pednekar in the 25th minute to give Assolda Veterans the lead.
In the second half, a cross from Francis Andrade was neatly placed by Vincent Barboza giving no chance for keeper Anil Fernandes to level the score 1-1 in the 34th minute.
In the next minute, a through ball by Presley Pereira was well connected by Peter Peixoto to score his brace to make it 2-1and the match- winner for Assolda Veterans.
Alex Alvares of Assolda veterans was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match award.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up Rs 30,000 plus trophies
MLA of Benaulim constituency & GFA President Churchill Alemao was the chief guest in the presence of Fr. Candido Fernandes, parish priest of Our Lady of Gloria Church, Varca, Sarpanch of VP Varca Salini Pereira, Charlton Lourenco, Rosario Cardozo and members of VP Varca. Socorro Coutinho (Ex-Dempo Coach), Jimmy Rebello Secretary of Varca Sports Club and Severino Fernandes of Cavelossim SC were present.
