MAPUSA: Calangute Association Sports Club had to wait for the penalty shoot before they got the better of Xetrapal Sports Club by 5-4 margin to enter the final of Candolim Panchayat Cup organised by Candolim SC at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, on Friday.
In the first 20 minutes of play, both the team played cautiously and restricted play in the midfield. In the second half, Calangute Association SC dominated but their strikers fumbled in front of the goal.
With the match ending in a goalless draw, the penalty shoot-out was enforced where for Calangute Association SC Pedro Gonsalves, Tushar Shirodkar, Faisle D’Souza, Ashwin D’Souza and Melwyn were on target. For Xetrapal SC, Vinay Pednekar, Claudio Rodrigues, Gaurav Vaigankar and Kanish Govekar netted. Ashok Sayerdekar shot was saved by Calangute Association SC goalkeeper.
