Candolim Sports Club emerge Rosary Cup Soccer champions

PANJIM: Candolim Sports Club outplayed St Savio, Calangute, 5-4 via tie-breaker to clinch Rosary Cup Soccer 2024 organised by Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem, at Mandrem panchayat ground, on Sunday.

In the first half, St Savio got an opportunity to score in the 22nd minute when Richard Cardozo took a free-kick which was brilliantly saved by Candolim SC goalkeeper Krupesh Candolkar.

At lemon break, both teams failed to score.

After resumption of play, St Savio took the lead in the 67th minute with the efforts of Fasel D’Souza. 

Down with a goal, Candolim SC fought-hard to find the much-needed equaliser. Their efforts bore fruits in the dying minutes of the match with the efforts of Bhavesh Naik.

At the end of regulation time, Candolim SC and St Savio settled for a 1-1 draw.

In the resultant tie-breaker, for Candolim SC Bhavesh, Nikhil, Aniket, Ashley and Rajat were on target, while for St Savio Calangute Pedro, Gauresh, Fasel and Tanay netted.

Chief guest Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar presented the trophy to the winners in the presence of Mandrem Sarpanch Prashant Naik and other dignitaries.
