GFA falls in line over RTI Act

The GFA today submitted the information sought by Adv Aires Rodrigues on the fees paid to advocate Subodh Kantak, following the order of State Chief Information Commissioner Motilal Keny that the GCA and all sports organisations recognised by SAG come under the RTI Act.
GFA general secretary, Savio Messias stated that the necessary information was released soon after the GCA case was decided by the Commissioner.
Following in the footsteps of the GCA, the GFA last month also had taken a stand that it did not come under the purview of RTI.
Declining to furnish the information, the GFA had claimed that they did not come under RTI while stating that were awaiting the outcome of the RTI case filed against the GCA.
Aires stated that it was deplorable that the GFA which is headed by Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao had chosen not to adhere to a notification issued by his own Government.
Aires had sought information from GFA on the fees paid to their lawyer Kantak, who besides the GCA was also the lawyer for GFA.
Aires stated that all organizations and associations getting government funding should voluntarily keep their affairs open for public scrutiny instead of having to be directed to do so.
The Government notification dated July 8, 2010 stated that all sports organizations and sports associations recognized by SAG would be covered under the RTI Act.
