Garbage menace still haunts SGPDA market
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, OCT 10
There seems to be no solution to the garbage woes affecting the South Goa Planning and Development Authority’s mega market complex near the Margao KTC bus stand.
Sunday saw stray cattle feasting on vegetable and other waste dumped at the corner of the complex in the absence of any collection and disposal mechanism. The composting unit set up at the PDA near the proposed pick-up stand by the Margao Municipal lie idle for want of manpower to operate the same.
In fact, customers and vendors alike have complained of stinking environment at the market complex due to irregular collection and disposal of the waste.
When newsmen drew attention of the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat to the market waste problem during his visit to the PDA ground to flag off a Mercedes rally on Sunday morning, he said he would talk to the PDA on the question of waste disposal.
Incidentally, waste disposal is a perennial problem affecting the market, though the PDA has given the contract to the Margao Civic body for lifting the waste on a regular basis.
