PANJIM: Modern Boys, Navelim grounded Star Boyz 25-20, 25-22 to clinch the 7th All UK-Goan Volleyball rolling cup organized by Star Boys of Swindon, at County ground, UK, recently.
Monroe, Linton, Gabriel played well for Modern Boys while Franco, Augusto and Manu tried hard for the runners-up. The winners were awarded Rs 35,000 and the runners-up had to be content with Rs 25,000.
Benny Six Merces; St Thomas, St Cruz, Siridao, St Lawrence Agassaim, Fachick Six Cabesa and St Peter Paul Navelim were the other teams in fray for the title. Linton was adjudged Best player of the final while Philip received the Best lifter award and Pio was declared Most promising player.
Vincy Cunha was the chief guest and Paskina Fernandes was the guest of honour along with Mario Marques, Cajie Dias, Monty Fernandes and others. This year, the tournament was organized for charity to help a family in Goa to re-build their house and the organizer handed Rs 1.20 lakh to Michael Fernandes of the Goan Citizens Welfare Trust.
