Navelim Sporting Club reign supreme

Register solitary goal win over Curtorim Gymkhana to clinch Martin’s Cup

BETALBATIM: Navelim Sporting Club beat Curtorim Gymkhana by a solitary goal to lift the Martin’s Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club, at Village Panchayat ground, Betalbatim on Sunday.
The all important goal was scored by Aulon Gomes.
In an absorbing final, both teams displayed attacking brand of football and kept the festive crowd on their toes. Both had equal number of scoring chances but their forwards squandered from close range.
The second half turned livelier as both went all out in search of the elusive match-winner. 
As the match progressed, Navelim Sporting Club took over control of the match  and their forwards launched a flurry of attacks.
Their persistence was soon rewarded when striker Aulon Gomes’ snap shot found the roof of the net. Stung by the goal, Curtorim Gymkhana made a concentrated efforts to reduce the margin however the rival defenders frustrated their attacks.
Navelim Sporting Club were awarded Rs 50,000 and a glittering trophy while Curtorim Gymkhana had to be content with Rs 40,000 and a trophy.
Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, Savio Alemao , R K Singh, president of RKS Associates, Special invitees Rev Fr Pascoal Afonso, parish priest of Betalbatim church, Fr Peter Fernandes , assistant parish priest of Betalbatim Church and Constancio Miranda, Sarpanch of VP Betalbatim.
