MAPUSA: Penha de Franca SC scored a narrow 2-1 win over Guirim Sports & Cultural Club to advance into the quarters of the Anjuna Gymkhana Soccer Cup, organized by Anjuna Gymkhana played at Tembi grounds, here on Saturday.
At halftime Penha de Franca led by a 2-0 margin.
In the 10th minute, Purshottam’s powerful strike was too hot for Guirim custodian to handle and the ball rolled towards Boris Rodrigues who coolly tapped it into the empty nets.
Minutes before going into the lemon break, Flasten Martins further increased the lead for Penha de Franca when his shot brushed the legs of the defender before landing into the Guirim goal.
On changing over, Steven Fernandes managed to reduce the margin for Guirim in the 45th minute, guiding in Gauresh’s cross.
