PANJIM: Vageesh Tendulkar scored eight points to emerge champion at first  Ponda Taluka level open rapid chess tournament 2013 organized by Ponda Taluka Chess Association, affiliated to Goa Chess Association at GVM’s Higher Secondary School hall, Farmagudi, Ponda.

In all, 80 players including 11 rated ones participated.

Shubham Sawaikar (7.5 points) got the second place and Mohit Khandeparkar (7 points) the third.

Shaunak Kuncolienkar (7), Gaurav Madkaikar (7), Sohan Nageshkar (7), Milind Gauns (6.5), Aston Dias (6.5), Kunal Naik (6), Vishwesh Pai (6), Vithal Pai (6), Akash Chodankar (6), Anand Kurtikar (6), Vineet Madkaikar (6) and Adinath Shirodkar (6) got 4th to 15th places in open category respectively.

Sandip Nigalye, Chairman and Managing Director, Raj Housing Development was the chief guest at the prize distribution function.

Sagar Sakordekar (president, PTCA) announced that an All-India Open Rapid FIDE Rating Chess tournament will be held on February 23 and 24 at Farmagudi.

Amogh Namshiker was the chief arbiter. Dr Shantanu Gauns (tournament co-ordinator), Vatan Kuncolienkar, Archana Tendulkar, Sandesh Naik, Wilson Cruz and Anand Kurtikar took active part in the organization.

Consolation prizes were awarded to: Best U-17 Aditya Hegde (1st), Sarvesh Kurtikar (2nd). Best U-15  Apurva Naik (1st), Jaiwant Shirodkar (2nd).

Best U-13 Chaitanya Korde (1st), Tanay Dudhal (2nd). Best U-11 Sarvam Naik, Akash Nair (2nd). Best U-9 Vaibhav Gaunekar (1st), Shivank Kuncolienkar (2nd).

Best U-7 Suyash Pai (1st), Saksham Naik (2nd). Best veteran (above 40) Sudan Kuncolienkar.
