MARGAO: Away from public and media glare, the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC) organised a clean-up drive under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) at KTC Bus Terminus and Hospicio Hospital in Margao.
In stark contrast to the high profile and fashionable drives organised by many government organisations, this clean-up drive by the staff went unnoticed mainly because there was no top official gracing the event nor was any media informed about the event.
The 200 young men and women of GHRDC started cleaning the KTC ground at 8 am after which started the drive at Hospicio at 9.30 am. At the Hospicio they cleared the weeds behind the OPD blocks while filling up several sacks with plastic trash.
They were accompanied by one senior security officer, Ichit Phaldesai, who was proud of the staff for showing genuine enthusiasm and doing back breaking work during the clean up drive. “The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which is celebrated for the fourth time on Gandhi Jayanti needs the contribution of every citizen. Just like how we clean up our homes, we have to clean up our surroundings. Only then this will mission will be successful”, said Phaldesai.
He mentioned that they had seen a lot of trash littered around KTC bus stand. “People throw garbage; the bus operators throw spare parts, liners and other unwanted items around every day. If the place has to be kept clean, each one should take responsibility in order for the drive to be successful,” he added.
Meanwhile, GSHRDC staff posted at Vasco conducted a massive cleanliness drive at the Baina beach to commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti Swacchata Diwas.
Hundreds of security personnel and other staff got down to the Baina beach and undertook the cleaning of the beach. Ravindra Bhavan chairman also joined the efforts of the GSHRDC in cleaning the adjoining Baina beach.
Ravindra Bhavan Chairman Sanjay Satardekar said, “The Swacchata Abhiyan has to be a continuous activity in Goa; only then we will be able to make our country clean on par with the western countries.
