PANJIM: Former Attorney General K K Parasaran is likely to represent Mhadei Bachao Abhiyan (MBA), which is now contemplating to file contempt petition in Supreme Court against Karnataka if the latter carry out any construction work in the River Mhadei basin following approval of its Detailed Project Report (DPR) by the Central Water Commission (CWC).
This was informed by senior advocate Bhavanishankar Gadnis, who approached Adv Parasaran and held discussions with him in this regard.
Adv Parasaran had earlier represented the Goa government in the original civil suit number 4 filed against Karnataka in the Apex Court in 2006. Later, in 2010, he withdrew from the case following differences with the State government, who then appointed senior counsel Rajeev Dhawan. Subsequently in 2012, the then Goa government withdrew its original civil suit No 4/2006 and urged the Centre to constitute Inter-State Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal.
