Dy CM wants Master Plan for Quepem

“Prepare Master Plan for Quepem and form Citizen Monitoring Committee,” Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza urged the Quepem Municipal councillors during the inaugural function of the Commercial Building of Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) on Wednesday. The Commercial Building of QMC consisting of 8 shops, 12 offices and one library hall is constructed by spending around Rs 60 lakhs from the grants given by the government under Golden Jubilee Grants.
Speaking further, D’Souza congratulated the Quepem council and said that only Mapusa and Quepem councils from 14 municipalities succeeded in spending the grants which was sanctioned by the government under the Golden Jubilee Grants. “Municipalities must prepare revenue generating projects so that councils can spend their own money,” said D’Souza and informed that Mapusa Municipality is having their own money of more than Rs.6.5 crores in fixed deposits besides government grants. The Municipality has more than 1000 shops and is getting an income in crores.
Expressing displeasure for councillors not attending the training programmes conducted at various places, he urged them to attend it in order to learn about their rights and powers. “After the coming election, I will send all the councillors for training at Local Self Government Institute, Mumbai,” D’Souza stated.
Urging to prepare a master plan for Quepem, D’Souza said to plan one-way roads, public toilets, widening of roads and other necessary requirements with the support of the people. D’Souza further urged to form a Citizen Monitoring Committee to take their suggestions for development. Requesting the public to keep the area clean, he urged to dispose garbage scientifically instead of throwing garbage on roads, rivers, in neighbours property as that will not solve the garbage issue.
In his speech, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Babu Kavlekar thanked D’Souza for sanctioning various developmental activities in Quepem and said that he has fulfilled almost all the promises made in his manifesto during the election.
