PANJIM: Considering the hardship faced by people due to demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination notes, the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has urged Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to release their monthly salary for November in cash instead of through the ECS system.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, GGEA president John Nazareth said, “Despite the problems faced by government employees, GGEA welcomes the move and wishes government success in the same, as we feel that the step taken is progressive and constructive in improving the economy of the country.”
Nazareth said that since Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has made it clear that it will take some time to streamline the situation, the association has requested the government to avoid payment of salary through banks via ECS system and instead pay it by cash for the month of November or until the process of withdrawal of money through ATMs become hassle free.
“Many government employees have reported that they have to stand in queue at banks to withdraw their salary in parts which ultimately amounts to spending the time they would use in their offices to serve the public,” he said. “The non presence of government employees to serve public may result in public outcry and criticism,” Nazareth added.
