VASCO: Kadamba Transport Corporation chairman and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida accused former Vasco MLA, Philip D’Souza of making false allegations against him and noted that they were made under frustration for not being in power.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the property expo organised at Vasco on Saturday, Almeida clarified that the KTC has a standard norm of following transparent procedures and the same can be easily verified by anyone who visits the office. “For any scrap material that has to be disposed, we first call for an auction followed by sealed tenders and whoever quotes highest in both the procedures bags the scrap from KTC. I am surprised that the former minister has no idea about the functioning of State administration, possibly because D’Souza who is out of power has gone scrap,” Almeida said.
Further denying charges of having any involvement in the garbage compactor scam that is presently under investigation by the Anti Corruption Bureau, Almeida said, “Such allegations are baseless as I had no role in the purchase of the garbage compactor. The standing committee members have powers to take decisions to approve payments worth Rs 10 lakh and thus as a part of the standing committee, we only approve the release of a Rs 8 lakh installment that was paid to the contractor. Also, this approval was done only after the Municipal engineers and Chief Officer cleared the file. So how is D’Souza making these allegations,” Almeida questioned.
“I feel that he is  making such statements to be in the media limelight and to gain political mileage but people of Vasco know about him and that is why they threw him out of power” he added.
