PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will chair a high-level meeting of officials and stakeholders to deliberate on issues concerning tourism, on Monday.
The meeting would deliberate on framing guidelines and enacting a law for controlling indiscipline on beaches. The meeting will also be attended by Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar, Chief Secretary Dharmendra Sharma and Goa police.
The meeting has been convened in the wake of various incidents of drowning deaths of tourists venturing into the sea and rivers after sunset, absence of monitoring of students on tours by teachers, swimming in the sea and water bodies under the influence of alcohol, spate of brawls between tourists and locals, deaths due to rash and drunken driving.
If one recalls, Tourism Minister Ajgaonkar conceived the idea of enacting tough laws to control over-adventurous tourists from venturing into the sea.
The meeting is also expected to review the measures taken by the police to curb drug trade.
