The Velim gram Sabha on Sunday has asked the Panchayat to seek details of migrants staying in rented premises in view of the recent burglary reported in the village.
At the meeting held this morning, gram sabha members raised their apprehensions over the presence of migrants in the village and the recent day light robbery that recent incident wherein the village was hit by a daring day light burglary.
Gram Sabha members felt the village panchayat should issue notice to the villagers to submit details of the migrants staying on rented premises as a matter of abundant caution.
The members also asked the body to intimate the police about the list of migrants and the prevailing law and order situation.
The meeting also discussed the pollution of the river Sal and it was unanimously agreed to support the Save River Sal movement.
The construction of a residential building also came in for discussions with members asking the panchayat to issue stop work order if the Director of Panchayats has asked the builder to submit a revise place of the project.
The meeting was attended by farmers from the village, who asked the Panchayat to implement measures to keep the stray cattle at bay.
They pointed out that no action has been initiated on the directions issued by the Salcete Mamladar to set up cattle pounds in the village. The farmers maintained that while large tracts of paddy fields have been left destroyed by saline water, they cannot even cultivate the remaining land because of the stray cattle menace.
In another decision, the gram sabha has told the Panchayat body not to make any further payments to the PWD on water bills since the department has disconnected public taps fro the village.
