MARGAO: After receiving the report on the scrap yards situated in Fatorda, South Goa Collector Anjali Sehrawat has directed the Deputy Collector to seek another report on the legal scrap yards and illegal ones.
The Collector has now ordered to ascertain how many of these scrap yards are illegal and are operating without licences.
The Collector has also contemplated action in form of show cause notices or action under Section 133 of CrPC.
The Sehrawat informed that the scrap yard which caught fire on November 28, has been operating without valid consent from the nodal authorities. The Collector said, “The Deputy collector has all the powers to take action under the Section 133 of CrPC. We will send notices to the illegal scrap yards and if there is no satisfactory response we will as well move ahead to shut them down”.
It may be recalled that the illegal scrap yard in Gawliwado caught fire on November 28 triggering 4 consecutive medium intensity explosions and a major fire within the property. It took nearly 3 to 4 hours for 3 fire tenders to contain the fire. The Fire officials had later in the evening extracted 6 domestic LPG cylinders from the scrap yard.
After the incident some locals informed that the scrap yard was also hosting some residents without permission. It has also been informed that the locals have been threatened too in the past by the scrap yard operator when they asked him to shut the yard.
Sehrawat had ordered the Fatorda Mamlatdar to conduct an urgent survey of all scrap yards in Fatorda and list out the illegal ones in the area. The report will now be followed up for further action.
