According to UTAA Ponda committee president and former Marciam sarpanch Vishwas Gavde, Durgadas Gavde, Moru Velip and Thomas Fernandes, the convention is being organised to assess its achievements, what to gain in future and to decide future course of action.
The convention is being organised on the occasion of its 10th anniversary celebration. Gavde said UTAA was formed on November 23, 2004, with a view to give rights to sons of the soil. “UTAA in the past fought for 12 main demands, some of which are fulfilled, while some are pending. Many vacancies and job posts are not filled for the UTAA members,” said Gavde.
“Preparations for the convention are in progress and awareness meetings among UTAA members are being organised in all villages. Different committees including transport, parking, cultural, fund collection, lunch, etc, are formed for smooth conduct of the convention,” he added.
