PANJIM: Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh has ordered an inquiry into alleged harassment of a journalist involving a lady police sub inspector.
The incident happened in Sunday night when the journalist was clicking pictures of an accident at Old Goa when the LPSI forcibly deleted the photos and kept him at the police station till about 3 am on Monday.
Goa Union of Journalists has demanded suspension of the LPSI. Goa Union of Journalists in a statement condemned the harassment of journalist and said, “The journalist was harassed at the Gaundalim Bridge in North Goa during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.”
“This incident is an attack on the freedom of press and should not be treated lightly,” GUJ President Rajtilak Naik said.
GUJ earlier sought intervention of the IGP Jaspal Singh in this matter. The IGP has ordered an inquiry which will be conducted by Superintendent of Police Shobit Saxena. GUJ welcome the inquiry initiated by the Goa Police.
GUJ has demanded immediate suspension of the concerned lady police sub inspector for this high-handed and disrespectful behaviour.
