HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, MARCH 29
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao has said the entire stretch of road from the Margao swimming pool to Borim will be four-laned in phases at an estimated cost of Rs 30-40 crore.
Besides, he said the Arlem road junction will be developed soon taking into account the traffic requirements of the area.
He was informally speaking to newsmen after inaugurating the work of hotmixing of the 4.5 km stretch of the road from Arlem junction to Tembi at a cost of Rs six crore.
Alemao further said that the entire stretch of the road from Old Market circle, Margao to Colva beach will be hotmixed in the next few days. “The work order has been issued to the contractor. Work on the project would commence soon”, he added.
The PWD Minister appealed to Goans to give time for the government to resolve all issues, including roads, drainages and water supply.
Local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco said the work of hot mixing of the road has finally taken up on the road which has witnessed many accidents in recent times.
“I have asked the contractor to maintain quality in the work. I will personally inspect the work twice a day”, he said.
Seeking cooperation from the people to complete the work, Lourenco said road dividers and reflectors would be erected and installed once the hotmixing work is complete in all respects.
He said he had been after the PWD Minister Churchill Alemao and Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to make available the necessary funds for hot mixing of the four-lane road.
