Gold chain theft accused remanded

MAPUSA: Gold chain theft accused Celistino Fernandes was remanded in police custody for one day by Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa, on Wednesday.

MAPUSA: Gold chain theft accused Celistino Fernandes was remanded in police custody for one day by Judicial Magistrate First Class at Mapusa, on Wednesday.
According to police, Celistino (35) ran away with the gold chain weighing 15.700 grams worth Rs 50,000 from a jewellery shop owned by Sidharth Salgaonkar in Mapusa market, on Monday evening. 
Police said that Celistino had gone to the shop on the pretext of buying a gold chain and asked the owner to show him one. When the owner showed him the gold chain, Celistino pretended that he was talking on his phone and when the owner got busy with other customer, he ran away with the chain.
Since the jewellery shop had a CCTV surveillance, the whole incident was recorded which was then shared on different social media which helped the police to nab the accused. 
Based on the CCTV footage he was arrested by Vasco police.
