The party claimed that the latest instance is the conversion of Calangute village into an ‘urban area’, purely a first step to grab Goan lands, broker deals with the land mafia and profit of them leaving Goans in the lurch.

“This move will further result in increase in water, power issues and most significantly an increase in the house taxes, thus kicking Goans when they are down. Moreover, this conversion has been done as thief in the night during the lockdown to defraud common Goans much like the three linear projects”, AAP alleged.

“It is important to note that tourist areas like Calangute where income is co-related to tourism are already reeling from losses due to the lockdown and the government’s ham-handed policies. Moreover, the pandemic has left many Goans in a bad state as Goa was one of the worst impacted in the country. All over Goa not only have prices of essentials like electricity increased, (despite infrastructure being ignored) but spikes in the prices of fuel have led to the increase in common household items and supplies. In the middle of this to turn Calangute into an ‘urban areas’ is another way for the BJP to steal even lands from Goans via the land mafia,” it charged.

“This is nothing but a move to steal more from Goans by Michael Lobo and Pramod Sawant. They are busy trying to fill their pockets more to fund more purchases of opposition leaders”, AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre alleged.

“Instead of working to ease the worries of Goans, the BJP government is trying to steal our land and make it easy for the land mafia”, Manuel Cardoz, AAP spokesperson charged.
