MAPUSA: Clube de Salgaocar managed to edge past new entrant Chapora Yuvak Sangh by 2-1 margin in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
In a well-contested match Clube de Salgaocar went into the breather with a two goals cushion with Selwyn Miranda and Isac Zomuanpuia scoring. While Rohan Kamble managed to reduce the margin for Chapora YS from the penalty spot.
After this match, Clube de Salgaocar have 12 points from four matches, while Chapora YS have four points from five matches.
Clube de Salgaocar surged ahead in the very 4th minute of play where a long cross from the right flank by U-21 Rui Noronha slipped from Chapora YS’s custodian Bhaskar Jalmi gloves to find opportunist Selwyn Miranda tap the ball into the goal, 1-0.
In the 10th minute, Chapora YS’s Akash Sanadi squared the ball to Rohan Pednekar whose stinging shot went just over the crossbar.
In a quick counter attack Isac collecting a long ball from his goalkeeper moved dangerously towards the rival goal and drove a rasping left footer which crashed into the far corner of Chapora YS’s goal, 2-0.
Chapora YS had an opportunity to reduce the margin but Rohan Pednekar’s stiff grounder went just past the far goal post.
Just a minute before the breather, Rui Noronha who was instrumental in the first goal, dribbled past a host of Chapora YS’s defenders but saw his placement being blocked for a corner by the defender.
On crossing over, Chapora YS’s coach Levino Pereira brought three quick substitutions while Clube de Salgaocar’s coach Keenan Almeida just one substitution.
It was Chapora colts all the way in the second half while Clube de Salgaocar surprisingly went on the back foot defending their two goals lead. In the 82nd minute, Chapora YS’s substitute Sachidanand Satelkar was brought down by Clube de Salgaocar’s Mevzen Oliveira inside the danger zone prompting Referee Tejas Nagvenkar to point to the dreaded spot. Rohan Kamble kept his cool to score and bring back Chapora YS back into the match, 2-1.
Two repeated corners by Richard Cardozo were saved by Clube de Salgaocar’s custodian. In the stoppage time Chapora YS’s Sachidanand cross at the far post saw stopper back Saurabh Patil a fraction late to connect his header into the goal.
In another match, Dempo Sports Club eased past FC Goa 2-0 at the Dempo Sports Club Academy ground, Ella-Old Goa, on Thursday.
Dempo SC opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Laximanrao Rane pressed high to win back possession from Sitroy Carvalho inside the defensive third and fired a low shot past the keeper at the near post.
Before the break, Rane turned provider whipping in a precise cross from the left that found Vinay Harji who timed his run perfectly and slotted home on the first touch to double Dempo SC’s advantage.
