Pernem Police have arrested five men in connection with the blind gunshot firing incident at Ugvem village that left two workers injured. The accused — identified as Nehal, Ashish, Akash, Rishikesh, and Gangaram, all residents of Ugvem, were taken into custody after a sustained and well-coordinated surveillance and intelligence operation.
According to police sources, the firing had created panic in the area, with initial investigations offering little leads on the motive or shooters. A special investigation team was subsequently formed to track suspicious movements and analyze CCTV footage from nearby locations. After days of monitoring, digital tracking, and local intelligence gathering, the five suspects were traced and detained.

Police said the motive behind the attack is still under scrutiny, though preliminary findings suggest a personal dispute or rivalry may have been involved. Both the injured workers are recovering and remain under medical observation.
Pernem Police have seized a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting, along with mobile phones and other evidence. The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Indian Penal Code. Further interrogation is underway to determine if additional accomplices or links to illegal weapon sources exist.
