Panic gripped passengers aboard an IndiGo flight on Saturday night after a man allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s emergency exit door not once, but twice during the journey, later claiming he was “possessed by a ghost.”
The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E-185, which departed from Bengaluru at around 8:15 pm en route to Varanasi. According to officials, the passenger, identified as Mohammad Adnan from Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district, first tried to tamper with the emergency exit door approximately 15 minutes after takeoff.
Alert cabin crew quickly intervened, and Adnan reportedly dismissed the act as a mistake. He was warned and monitored for the remainder of the flight.
However, the situation escalated shortly before landing. At around 10:20 pm, with the aircraft descending and just about 500 feet above ground near Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi, the passenger allegedly made a second attempt to open the emergency exit.
Crew members immediately alerted the cockpit, prompting the pilot to abort the landing in a swift precautionary move. The aircraft performed a go-around before safely landing at approximately 10:35 pm.
All passengers and crew remained safe, and authorities are expected to investigate the incident further.
