The Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG) 2026 witnessed disruptions on May 30 after a technical glitch delayed examinations at several centres across India. The issue primarily affected the second shift, forcing many candidates to wait beyond their scheduled reporting and examination times. In response, the National Testing Agency (NTA) revised the examination schedule. Candidates appearing for the afternoon session were asked to report from 2:30 pm onwards, while the examination was rescheduled to begin at 4:00 pm instead of the originally planned 3:00 pm.For students who appeared in the morning session, NTA clarified that the full examination duration would be provided despite the delay. Candidates were allowed to complete the test and leave only after receiving the allotted time, ensuring that no one was disadvantaged. The agency stated that the disruption was caused by a technical issue at the end of its service provider, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
According to NTA, the problem was identified and resolved promptly, allowing examinations to continue. In an official statement posted on social media, NTA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to students and parents. It added that compensatory time was granted to maintain fairness and equal opportunity for all candidates. To assist affected students, the agency activated support channels, including a helpline number and email assistance. Candidates were advised to rely on the official CUET UG website for updates and instructions. The incident has once again highlighted the challenges associated with conducting large-scale computer-based entrance examinations in India. With lakhs of students depending on these tests for university admissions, experts have stressed the need for robust technological infrastructure to prevent similar disruptions in the future.
