PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who was admitted to Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) on Sunday, is recuperating and is likely to be discharged soon.
Parrikar, who is suffering from pancreatitis was admitted to Mumbai;s Lilavati Hospital on February 15 but was discharged on February 22, and presented the Budget. He was under observation by experts from GMC at home in Dona Paula but late Sunday evening he was admitted at GMC for dehydration.
“The Chief Minister remains admitted in the hospital but is absolutely fine and stable. We decided to keep him in hospital for better care and treatment,” Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said he is recuperating and is likely to be discharged soon, after which he will resume work.
Hospital sources stated that expert doctors are attending on Parrikar who has been admitted in ward 121 along with other patients. It is learnt that family members and doctors wanted the Chief Minister to be shifted to Lilavati, however, he declined to go.
“Parrikar wanted doctors to treat him in GMC only,” sources said adding, “There is nothing to worry about as his health is stable now.”
Ministers, BJP leaders and well wishers were amongst those who visited Parrikar in the hospital. However, doctors restricted the entry of people, to avoid infection.
The Chief Minister’s Office, through a statement, said that Parrikar had slight dehydration and that since he was taking treatment at home, doctors at GMC advised he be treated in the hospital.
Union Minister Shripad Naik and Lok Sabha MP Narendra Sawaikar met Parrikar on Monday. Sawaikar said doctors expressed satisfaction about the recovery.
During his stay at home, the Chief Minister had been clearing pending files, especially related to Finance Department. “During two days – Friday and Saturday – Chief Minister went through a series of files. He cleared a few while in some files he entered remarks and sent them back to the concerned departments,” sources said.
