They have complained that the panchayat has not taken any action against illegal houses and the disposal of sewage in the fields by Salgaonkar College in Raia.
Fernandes informed that a demolition order against the illegal houses was issued nearly two years ago, but the sarpanch had not complied with the order.
“The filth from the 7 illegal structures flows down in the rains and pollutes the village. It is a shame that the sarpanch is indirectly shielding the illegalities and spoiling the village whose custodian he is,” he said.
The sewage discharged into the fields by the V M Salgaonkar College is a nuisance for cultivation, he said and added that they have requested the deputy collector to stop the same and take strict action against the college for rendering the fields uncultivable.
“The sarpanch has shamed the chair, (as such should) face action for his misdeeds and for turning a blind eye to the illegalities,” they said.
The Deputy Director of panchayats has responded positively and has promised prompt and necessary action against the illegalities, he said.
