PORVORIM: The State government has ruled out the possibility of direct regularisation of services of contractual workers as there is no such policy in place.
Power Minister Ramakrishna Sudin Dhavalikar on Wednesday informed the House that the Department has 341 contract line helpers and 119 contract meter readers.

“The Government does not have any policy so as to regularize the services of contract employees. Therefore, the contract workers have to apply for the post upon advertisement and follow the procedure,” he said.
Dhavalikar also said that the Cabinet has decided to relax the age limit of contract employees working in various government departments to the extent of their total contractual service subject to a maximum of five years to enable them to apply for the posts advertised for direct recruitment subject to the condition that their initial contractual appointment is done through a process of advertisement, adhering to conditions of the recruitment rules.
He was responding to the calling attention motion moved by Nuvem MLA Alexio Sequeira, who informed the House that the employees working on contractual basis in 2007-11 are still awaiting their service to be regularised.
He said that in December 2011, government had issued order to regularise their services, which was kept in abeyance via an order in January 2011 in view of code of conduct.
“That order was never lifted. Injustice has been done to these employees, who are still working on contract basis,” the MLA said seeking government intervention.
The Minister replied that majority of contract employees recruited during that period, were without interview or advertisement and hence they cannot get the benefit of age relaxation and that many are over 50 years old. He, however, assured to take up the matter with the Personnel Department.
