MAPUSA: A 21-year-old football player Avrhishto Fernandes was found hanging at his residence at Grand Morod, Saligao on Monday.
Sources informed that after attending a New Year party, the deceased youth returned home at 4 am and when he did not open the door of his room till 10 am, the family tried calling him.
Later, when he failed to respond, a family member entered the room through roof and saw him hanging.
Avrhishto played for Saligao Sporting Club and the reason behind the suicide is not yet known. Saligao police conducted the panchanama and sent the body to Goa Medical College for postmortem.
PSI Shrikant Pednekar is further investigating the case.
