The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar, founder of Renukai Chemistry Classes (RCC), for his alleged involvement in the NEET UG paper leak case, officials said.
Motegaonkar, whose coaching institute operates nine branches including its main centre in Latur, Maharashtra, was taken into custody on Sunday evening following searches conducted by the agency at his premises.
According to officials, the CBI recovered a leaked copy of the NEET UG examination paper held on May 3 from Motegaonkar’s mobile phone during the searches. The development is being viewed as a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in the medical entrance examination.
Investigators have described Motegaonkar as an “active member of the organised gang” allegedly involved in leaking and circulating the NEET UG question paper.
The CBI, in its grounds for arrest, stated that Motegaonkar was part of a larger conspiracy with other accused individuals. The agency alleged that he received the NEET UG question paper and answer key on April 23, nearly 10 days before the examination was conducted across India and at overseas centres.
The agency is continuing its probe to identify others linked to the alleged paper leak network, including intermediaries and individuals suspected of facilitating the circulation of confidential examination material.
The NEET UG controversy has triggered widespread concern among students and parents, with demands for stricter safeguards and greater transparency in the conduct of competitive examinations.
