The Indian Air Force on Monday announced that Squadron Leader Saanya has become the first woman officer in the force to earn the prestigious Cat-A Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) qualification.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for the Indian Air Force and highlights the growing role of women officers in military aviation.
In a post shared on X, the IAF described the accomplishment as a moment of pride and inspiration for aspiring aviators across the country.
“Excellence takes flight. Sqn Ldr Saanya has achieved a historic first by becoming the first woman officer to earn the coveted Cat-A Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) qualification. Her achievement embodies dedication and the relentless pursuit of excellence,” the IAF said.
The force also shared photographs of A P Singh, Chief of the Air Staff, felicitating Squadron Leader Saanya for her accomplishment.
The Cat-A QFI qualification is regarded as one of the highest instructional standards in military aviation training and reflects exceptional flying and teaching capabilities.
The development is being seen as another important step toward greater gender representation and leadership opportunities for women in India’s armed forces.
