VASCO: Nineteen persons — two Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) councilors and 17 of their supporters — were arrested by Vasco police on Friday for allegedly threatening and abusing MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik. All of them were produced before Vasco JMFC who granted them bail.
On March 24, Naik and even Chairperson Deepak Naik had filed two separate police complaint against Councillor Krishna alias Daji Salkar and his supporters for harassing, abusing her with filthy language and gestures inside her cabin after she initiated action against illegal kiosk that were hindrance for smooth traffic movement. However, after she removed kiosk belonging to Salkar supporters from Mangoor junction, last Friday, Krishna Salkar along with his supporters forcibly entered into Deepali’s cabin and started demanding explanation as to why she has been selectively targeting his supporters by serving notices on illegal kiosks and houses of his supporters while other people were left out.
Thus, following a formal complaint and after conducting probe for over six days, Vasco police arrested Salkkar, lady Councillor Rochna Borkar and 16 others including 10 female supporters and sis male supporters of Salkar. They all were arrested under Sections 143, 147, 448, 504, 509, 352, 506 353 read with section 149 of IPC.
All of them were later produced before Vasco JMFC who released all accused persons after they all furnished personal bond of Rs 10 thousand along with one or two sureties of the like amount to the satisfaction of investigating officer.
