VALPOI: Around 2,000 locals from Sattari taluka held a historical rally in Valpoi town to fight for their land ownership rights.

“After 60 years of Goa’s liberation we have not received the ownership of land, till date. The Goa Government has failed totally in solving the land ownership issue of Sattari people,” said the locals.
“Now we will not keep quiet. If the present government is not solving our land ownership issue, then we will work and vote against this government in the coming elections,” said a Sattari local.
“All alvara land holders from the taluka have submitted the alvara land files to the North Goa Collector, two years ago, but till date we have not got the ownership of the alvara land in Class A category,” says Adv Ganpat Gaonkar.
“The government has made Forest Right Committees in every village panchayat of Sattari to give the ownership rights to those people, who are living in the forest land. The villagers have already submitted their land details to the Forest Land Right Committee but till date nothing has happened,” said Rajesh Gaonkar, a social activist.
The locals have passed some resolutions, the first demand to give the ownership of land to those people whose houses come under the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary; and second to grant the ownership of forest land where the people are staying from the ages and last to solve the Mokasdari land ownership cases which are being solved at a snail’s speed. The resolution copy will be sent to all Sattari taluka panchayats, a local added.
