PANJIM: Thirty seven schools, most of them rural, achieved cent percent results, debunking the myth that good education is found only in urban areas.
Fifteen schools from Goa’s two remotest talukas ~ five schools from Canacona taluka and 10 schools from Pernem delivered cent percent results at the matriculation exam results which were declared on Thursday.
Nirakar Vidyalaya Maxem, Loliem, St Sebastian HS, Loliem St Anthony’s Galgibaga, Govt HS Sadolxem and Nirakar HS Tundal Gaodongorem have achieved the distinction from Canacona taluka. From Pernem, Viscount of Pernem HS, Government HS Agarwada, Harmal Panchkroshi HS, Kamaleshwar HS Korgao, Kamaleshwar HS Pethechewad, Ideal English HS, Alorna Panchkroshi, Our Lady of Rosary Mandrem, St Xavier Vidhyalaya Korgao made the cut.
Another three schools from Sanguem taluka ~ Barabhumi HS Tambdisurla, Somnath English HS Savargali, one from Dharbandora taluka Matoshri Anandbai Vaman Marathi Vidyalaya and two schools from Bicholim taluka ~ Government HS Mencurem and Government HS Surla Bicholim achieved cent per cent results.
In contrast in Goa’s ‘urban talukas’ just two schools from Bardez Government HS Revora-Nadora and Seminary of Our Lady, Saligao, two from Mormugao ~ St Theresa’s Vasco and Keshav Smruti HS Dabolim, four from Salcete ~ Fatima Convent Margao, Holy Spirit Institute Cavelossim, Assumpta Convent HS Sarzora, Chinchinim and Our Lady of Lourdes HS Utorda and three from Tiswadi ~ Our Lady of Divar at Piedade Divar, K B Hegdewar HS Panjim and St Xavier’s academy a school for special children delivered cent per cent results.
It could be argued that the low number of enrollments in these schools makes it easy to achieve cent percent results, given that many of these schools who achieve cent per cent results have less than thirty students appearing for the examination.
The low numbers however mean that each student can get more attention from the teacher and hence take greater interest in their studies. Over 84 schools around the State witnessed a pass percentage of over 95% out of the 365 high schools in the State. Among these are many city-based schools who have witnessed less than five failures from among 60-120 or more students who answered the exam.
The 100% achievement of government schools too is a huge turnaround from the days when government schools would sometimes see more failures than students who passed.
