The Tourism Department demolished four illegal shacks carrying out trade along the Calangute coast on Monday.
The demolition squad led by Joint Mamlatdar Neetal Amonkar and Fernando Vales of the Tourism Department identified the four illegal structures and called for demolition of the same.
The demolitions were carried with the help of manual labourers, which however drew some controversy.
“Tourism Department officials demolished three illegal shacks and a water sports activity structure, but what about the other shack that has been running illegally with the blessing of an influential politician?” Shack Owners Association Secretary John Lobo told media. “Why has that not been demolished? The rule should be applied to all and not a select few,” he stated.
