PANJIM: Most parts of the State received heavy rainfall throughout the day on Tuesday with an average 5 cm rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. However, no major untoward incident was recorded in the State.
In light of the monsoon circulations along the west coast of the country, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the State during the week.
Mormugao received 13.45 cm and Panjim recorded 12 cm of rainfall between 8.30 am on July 22 and 5.30 pm on July 23.
In its weather statement on Tuesday, IMD has stated that heavy rainfall at few places with very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to occur over North Goa and South Goa districts of the state from July 24 to 27, 2019 i.e. until Saturday.
IMD Goa has further warned fishermen against venturing into the sea for the next five days due to rough to very rough sea conditions which are likely to prevail over east-central and North Arabian Sea during the next 5 days. “Rough to very rough sea conditions with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely to prevail over east-central and North Arabian Sea during the next 5 days. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea during next five days.”
IMD Goa informed that Dabolim recorded very heavy rainfall of 14 cm between 8.30 am on July 22 and 8.30 am on July 23.
In the 24 hours between 8.30 am on July 22 and 8.30 am on July 23, Pernem, Ponda and Canacona recorded rainfall of 9 cm each and Sanquelim recorded 8 cm of rainfall. While Margao and Ela Old Goa received 6 cm of rainfall, Quepem received 5 cm and Sanguem received 3 cm of rainfall.
