MARGAO: Disturbing scenes of water logging all over the Margao and areas of Salcete were reported on Tuesday. Water overflowing from the drains was noticed in several places in Margao and Salcete villages.
Aggrieved people took to the social media platforms to highlight the state of affairs in their areas instantly flooding various platforms with pictures of flooding.
While the heavy and surplus rains are good for Goa, it has exposed the state of pre-monsoon preparedness of the State wherein flooding of roads and houses in low lying areas has become obvious. The roads in Davorlim village were under water entire evening as rains poured down continuously for hours. The locals of Davorlim said that it is common during rains and also flayed the local Panchayat for not paying heed to the problem.
Mazilwaddo in Benaulim was flooded due to the incessant rains on Tuesday. The locals have blamed district administration and local panchayat for this situation which, they say, is due to the failure to clean the drainages across the village.
The road from Kharebandh to Varca also submerged on Tuesday. “This is an annual feature,” the villagers say.
The situation wasn’t too different in Margao. Water was seen overflowing from the drains making it difficult for people to commute. Areas of Pajifond, Malbhat witnessed immense flooding and the surrounding areas of Margao too weren’t an exception.
A huge banyan tree just ahead of the Colva police station collapsed on the road on Tuesday evening. The traffic was diverted through another route and the fire personnel were working till late night to remove the tree.
