Jewellery expo at Margao
PANJIM: Phorum Jewels, a leading manufacturer of gold and diamond studded jewellery, will hold an exhibition-cum-sale at Nanutel Hotel, Margao on April 14 and 15. This will be followed by two other exhibitions at Rampon, Hotel Mandovi, Panjim on April 17 and 18 and at Hotel Sungrace, Varkhandem, Ponda on and April 20 and 21. Timing of all exhibitions is from 11 am to 8 pm.
Nach Goenkara 2013
PANJIM: Unbeatable Dance Academy will organise ‘Nach Goenkara 2013’, an all-Goa Mummy’s solo dance competition. The last date for submitting entry forms is April 11. The grand finale will be held on May 5 at Kala Academy. The audition round of Mummy’s solo dance will be held on April 13 at Shree Dattatray Temple Hall, Cortalim, from 4 pm onwards. The entry fee is Rs 500. The short-listed participants will perform in the semi-finals on April 21. The Grand finale will be judged by Siddhesh Pai and Khushboo Purohit from Dance India Dance (Zee TV fame). The winner will get a cash reward of Rs 10,000, gift hamper and certificate. The runner-up will be given a gift hamper and certificate. Besides prizes, all the finalists would be awarded certificates autographed by Siddhesh and Khushboo. Summer dance workshop
PANJIM: Starting April 8, the Unbeatable Dance Academy will conduct a summer dance workshop. The students will be trained by Pec Rohit (Gujarat), Tushar Volvoikar during the workshop. Talk on ‘Illuminated mind’
PANJIM: Suhani Shah will deliver a talk in Panjim and Margao on destiny designing, science of karma, clarity in thinking, belief-systems and illusionary reality. In her talk, Ms Shah will also focus on fears and confidence, self-hypnosis, emotional conditioning, universal laws and mindful living. These are going to be two hours interactive sessions and questions from the audiences are welcomed. In Panjim, the talk will be at Macquines Palace, Old GMC, on April 7 & 8, at 11.30 am and at 7 pm, respectively. In Margao, it will be at Ravindra Bhavan on April 7 & 8 at 5 pm and 7 pm, respectively.
Aptitude test for students
PANJIM: Mathgramasth Hindu Sabha in collaboration with Aasanka Learning will conduct an aptitude test for students aspiring to take admission in science stream at the higher secondary level. The test will be followed by a seminar for students and parents. The subject of the seminar will be ‘Change in the pattern of Competitive Exams and importance of Board Exams’. The Seminar will be addressed by renowned competitive exams trainer Atul Nigam. The aptitude test will be conducted at Damodar Higher Secondary School (Science), Comba, Margao on April 9, from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, followed by a seminar from 11 am to 12 pm. Aadhaar Airlines on May 3, 10
PANJIM: Ten housewives of the 20-Point Colony, Socorro, Porvorim, will present a humourous all-women’s natak, Aadhaar Airlines, on May 3 and 10. The play is directed by award-winning Konkani/Marathi director Shirish Naik from Merces. The natak evolves around a group of ladies, on their Goa-Mumbai maiden air trip and their escapades inside the aircraft.

Proclaimed offender arrested
MARGAO: A 22-year old proclaimed offender Ravi Gope wanted in Jharkhand in nine criminal cases, including murder and dacoity, is now cooling heels inside the lock-up of Margao police on Saturday.
After arriving in the state four days ago, the accused was taking shelter in Majorda and was nabbed from the Cansaulim Primary Health Centre, where he was admitted for malaria.
No sooner the Jharkhand police dispatched wireless message on the wanted criminal to the district Police chief Shekhar Prabhudeesai, the Margao police carried out a hunt for the accused and the police team headed by PI Sudesh Naik finally landed at Majorda on Friday noon following information that the accused was hiding in Majorda.
“After investigations, we received information that the accused was undergoing treatment at the Cansaulim primary health centre. Immediately, we posted two policemen to guard the accused and we finally took his custody on Saturday after his discharge”, PI Sudesh said.
Replying to a question, he said the accused is wanted in nine criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, rioting etc.
He said the accused will be handed over to the Jharkhand police after completing the formalities.
Murder accused gets police remand
MARGAO: The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao on Saturday remanded accused Anwar Sheikh to six days police custody.
Colva police said the accused will be thoroughly interrogated for the cold blooded murder of Seraulim senior citizen, Constancio Da Silva in January last year.
The accused was arrested by the Margao police at Pajifond earlier this week, days after he escaped from the judicial custody at Sawnuur-Karnataka, where he was arrested for the theft of three motorcycles, stolen from the jurisdiction of Margao and Maina Curtorim police stations.
Accused handed over to cops
MARGAO: Residents of Colmorod-Navelim handed over a person to the Margao police after he reportedly made an attempt to enter a house on Saturday evening.
The accused was caught by the local residents after the woman raised an alarm when he tried to enter the house.
A team of Margao police later took the accused in their custody. Further investigations are on.
Members of St John’s club hold meet
MARGAO: The general body meeting of the St John’s Grand Club of Benaulim (Kudd), at Mumbai was held at the Maria Hall, Benaulim on Saturday wherein members were briefed about the status of the “Club” at Mumbai.
The owner cum builder Javed Hussain, who was invited by the Trust, informed that the St John’s Grand Club would get 4000 sq ft of space in the new building. He appealed to the club members from the village to come and see its status, saying that the new club space will benefit the villagers. He said the building will have two lifts for the benefit of the occupants.
Chairman of the Trust, Charles Fermandes requested the builder to provide space for the club within the first 4-5 floors for the convenience of the members.
In his address, Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva thanked the builder-cum-owner for helping the club to get the new place for its members. Caitu turned emotional after he recalled how the club had come in handy for him when he visited Mumbai way back in 1976. Caitu, who received a membership certificate, said he was happy to finally get the certificate years after he had requested for the same.
He called upon the village youth to support and protect the club just as their ancestors had protected the same for the future generations. Village Sarpanch Royla Fernandes, ZP member Maria Rebello and others attended the meeting.
