Will not close down this academic year even if HC verdict goes in our favour: Principal

MARGAO: Chowgule Higher Secondary School, Margao, on Thursday opened its online admissions for XI Science and Arts, even as parents and students appeared a worried lot as the Chowgule management is yet to announce the number of seats available for both the streams this year.
Though the Education Department has said that Chowgule higher secondary intake capacity is 200 students for the Science stream, Principal R V Gaonkar said the number of seats that will be filled up would depend on the cut-off percentage and the number of students applying for admissions.
Day one of the admission process saw around 175 students applying online, of which around 130 students opted for the Science stream. Principal R V Gaonkar said that the online admissions will close on Friday, after which the higher secondary will display the merit list and the cut-off percentage for admissions.
Replying to a question, he said that all students who have applied will not get admissions, saying the higher secondary will go by merit and the percentage. “There are so many students with low percentage who have also applied for admissions online. Only those who fall within the cut-off percentage will get admissions,” he said.
Replying to another question, he said that Chowgule Education society would wait for the court to pronounce its verdict in its writ petition challenging the government’s decision rejecting its application seeking permission to close down the school. “We will not close down the school this academic year even if the verdict goes in our favour. We will also ensure that the XI students will be allowed to complete XII next academic year,” Gaonkar added.
