MARGAO: Zonal Agriculture Officials who were deputed to attend special gram sabha meetings at two panchayats played truant and stayed away from both the villages even though they promised to be present for the meeting.
Assistant Technical Managers Ajay Gaonkar and Shivdas Natoso were deputed to attend the gram sabhas at Chandor-Cavorim and Macasana panchayats but did not attend them and instead were present for the gram sabha at Guirdolim Village Panchayat.
They came to Chandor-Cavorim and gave the panchayat a Marathi pamphlet listing out the various schemes of the department. When the panchayat members told them that they cannot read devnagiri and needed an English pamphlet they said they will be present for the meeting to explain.
However, they silently left the panchayat hall and apparently attended the gram sabha at adjoining Guirdolim panchayat. And they did not even bother to visit Macasana village whose gram sabha they were supposed to attend too.
