PANJIM: The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Saturday slammed the State government for passing a bill increasing MLAs salaries and allowances instead of revising minimum wages of the workers.
AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonseca said that the minimum wages in the state have not been revised since last eight years. He said that Labour Minister Atanasio `Babush’ Monserrate had assured them that the minimum wages will be revised but it was now more than a year there was no decision.

The revision of minimum wages will directly benefit 2.5 lakh workers employed in the State in both – organised and unorganised sectors. The AITUC has been demanding immediate revision of minimum ages with scientific Dearness Allowance (DA) from July 2021 at Rs 750 per day to unskilled category, Rs 805 per day for semi-skilled, Rs 910 per day for skilled and Rs 1000 per day to highly skilled category of workers on the basis of the recommendations of the 15th Indian labour Conference and Supreme Court judgments.
Fonseca pointed out that Kerala and Union Territory of Delhi had already revised minimum wages while, it has been delayed in the State when inflation prices hadskyrocketed.Fonseca has threatened that trade union will start protests if the State governmentfails to fulfil the demand by revising minimum wages.
