Heads of all recognised secondary and higher secondary schools (from V to IX and XI) within the jurisdiction of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education have been directed to declare first the results of students not covered under the sports policy 2009 and subsequently of those benefiting from it after obtaining the requisite authenticated certificates.
A circular issued by the Board on Thursday cleared the decks for allotment of marks under the sports policy a few days before the results of students from secondary schools. The circular contains the final modalities for allotment of marks to the students for 2009-10.
As per the circular, parents of students awaiting Board (X and XII) results have been directed to submit authenticated certificates of sports participation/achievement to the Goa Board by April 30, 2010. The certificates, it is stated, have to be authenticated either by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs or the Sports Authority of Goa.
It states in case a student has failed in the SSC/HSSC examination and appears again, sports merit marks due to him/her as a sports student will be carried forward in subsequent examinations.
The circular further mentions, “In case of students failing, the sports marks garnered by a student will be added to the subject or subjects in which he/she has failed, either theory or practicals or both, and the same shall be indicated by asterisk mark (*) after which condonation marks indicated by a plus (+) sign will be added.”
The allotment of marks would be done as per the table and students will be awarded for highest level of participation in any one event will be considered. For example, student wins both gold and silver medals marks will be given for highest level (for winning gold) of achievement.
In case of those students who are passing, sports merit marks will be shown separately in the marksheet. The sports merit marks will be shown separately even if a student fails to pass even after addition of sports and condonation marks.
In case of Std VIII and IX if a student is failing, the sports merit marks will be added to the average of either theory or practicals or both and the grades have to be determined. In case a sports student has acquired an aggregate of more than 100%, it shall be treated as 100%.
The copy of today’s circular has been forwarded to all members of the Board, the Director of Education, Director SCERT, Assistant Director of Education North/South/Central Edu. Zone – Mapusa/Margao/Panjim, heads of sections of the Board and Director of Sports and Youth Affairs.
