Amit Sawant elected Sarpanch of Mandrem VP

The panchayat now consists of seven members from the panel backed by Arolkar, while four members belong to the Dayanand Sopte panel.

PERNEM:  Advocate Amit Sawant was elected unopposed as the new Sarpanch of the Mandrem village panchayat.

A special meeting was convened on Tuesday to elect the new sarpanch, during which only one nomination was received. As a result, Sawant was declared elected unopposed.

It can be recalled that seven panch members of MandremVP had moved a no-confidence motion against their newly elected sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar within 24 hours of the election held on August 23.

Former Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte had claimed his stake over the Mandrem panchayat when Konadkar was elected Sarpanch. However, on Tuesday, present Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar supported the panch members who moved the no-confidence motion. Eleven Panch members were present out of which seven including Prashant Naik, Tara Hadfadkar, Roshal AmrozFernandes, Robert Fernandes, Kiran Sawant and Amit Sawant voted in favour of the motion while Deputy Sarpanch Chetana Pednekar, Sampada Asgaonkar and Rajesh Mandrekar were against the motion. The panchayat now consists of seven members from the panel backed by Arolkar, while four members belong to the Dayanand Sopte panel.
