PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday assured State Legislative Assembly to provide all necessary help to Comunidade of Amona to take back its land, leased out to Sesa Goa Ltd in 1989, provided the comunidade body initiates eviction proceedings.
Parrikar also said that government is only the permitting authority but the decision to allocate land was taken by Comunidade through a resolution and hence they have to act to take back the land. “Comunidade is an independent body and is free to approach the Court. Government will provide them full support,” he said.
Chief Minister, while replying during the question hour said, ‘if the agreement was signed between comunidade and Sesa Goa for a term of 20 years, now with expiry of lease, let them enforce the agreement and take back the land’.
The question was raised by Congress MLA Alexio Reginaldo Lourenco, who brought to the notice of the House that the land was leased for Sesa Goa for a period of 20 years by Amona Comunidade in 1989.
He said that the lease has expired and the land has to be handed over to Comunidade.
The MLA demanded that government should take steps to help the comunidade.
Reginaldo said that Comunidade of Amona has made several appeals to government demanding their intervention in the matter.
Replying to this, Minister for Revenue Francis D’Souza said ‘government cannot take decision in all matters. Here Comunidade has to act’. Minister also assured full support to the Comunidade body in taking back land from Sesa Goa.
An area of 1.92 lakh sqmts as leased out to Sesa Goa through a resolution in 1984 and 1989 in a phased manner for a period of 20 years. The lease expired in 2010.
