The Magisterial Inquiry Committee investigating the devastating fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub has submitted its report to the State government, sources said. The inquiry attributes the tragedy, which claimed 25 lives in early December, to serious lapses in regulatory oversight and safety compliance.
Of the deceased, 20 were club staff members, while five were tourists. In response to the incident, the government had appointed a magisterial inquiry committee under the chairmanship of the North Goa District Collector on December 8, instructing it to submit findings within seven days. The committee completed its in-depth investigation and submitted its report on December 23, 2025, which has now been handed over to the Chief Secretary of the State.

The committee examined the causes of the fire, scrutinised the licenses and permissions granted to the club, and assessed compliance with safety norms.
