PANJIM: An alleged chain snatcher, who was caught red-handed while snatching a chain from a woman near Children’s Park on Monday, attempted suicide on Wednesday while in police custody.
Police said Ashok Golar, hailing from Belgaum, Karnataka, supposedly swallowed three pins while the police officials were busy attending a meeting at the police station.
“He was kept in the office room of the police station for interrogation. When the police officials were holding their regular meeting, there was power shut down. Taking advantage of this, he reportedly swallowed the pins which were lying on an officer’s table,” said an official.
During a medical check-up at Goa Medical College, it was found that the accused might have consumed some thin objects. “When he complained of stomach pain in the evening we rushed him to GMC where doctors on examination observed some pin-like object. He is fine now,” the officer said.
Golar was fleeing with a gold chain
he had snatched from one Mamta Naik when passers by caught him after
the woman raised an alarm and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
A case of attempt to suicide has been
registered.
